in limbo, waiting for treatment

Lab work, pet scan, port placement, and the list goes on and on. So many things have to come together before chemo can start. One that I didn’t list, a very important item, is insurance authorization. A cooling cap is an FDA approved treatment that is given at the same time as chemo infusion. This cap can help you keep your hair during treatment or at the very least help with faster regrowing of your hair if you lose it. Not all insurance plans offer coverage for this treatment. I found out today that Medicare and my secondary plan will cover it. Having lost my hair from treatment 8 years ago, I’m pretty excited to see if this will work. Also got the start date for my first of 6 chemo infusions. February 23rd. My regimen includes Keytruda as well. That part of my treatment will extend for several months after the chemo is over. I am more than ready to get this started. There’s a reason for all of this. It’s another page of my story. Another entry in my diary to hopefully read years from now and reflect on the lessons learned.
